2021 was THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE Newport Boat Show. Last year would have been but it did not happen due to covid. It was my 41st Newport Show. I have done a lot of boat shows but as far as shows, Newport is probably the best. There was a reduction in boats displayed. All dealers had trouble getting new product to show since production has been slow and demand high. A couple of builders were also not willing to chance covid. A couple of builders also thought, I'm sold out over a year, why sit there telling people they cannot get a boat.

May 1991 my brother Rick was camped at the South Col of Everest. It had been a white out and blowing over 60 for the past 4 days. His team managed to fix some ropes toward the summit but they were mostly pinned down. In 2011 Sabre Yachts, an extremely well run, boat builder stopped making sailboats, why?? Not because no one wanted to buy them, but rather because they were making little or no money building them.

I know the first thing you are thinking is that sailboats are not inexpensive. For what you get they are actually excellent values. In 2011 Sabre Yachts, an extremely well run, boat builder stopped making sailboats, why?? Not because no one wanted to buy them, but rather because they were making little or no money building them.

My first sales position in the yachting business was with Sailboats Northeast. I started in August 1980. I was a commissioned salesman for SBNE selling mostly new boats, some trade-ins, and some used boats. Most of the new boats I sold were in stock in our inventory in Marblehead. They were lined up in a storage area in a lumber yard.

February 2021 almost completes a full year of the Covid pandemic. How much longer this will go on no one knows, but there is light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccine.
