THE SAILBOAT INDUSTRY
A lot has happened in the boat industry in the past year. The trend toward European built boats continues to increase. Over 65% off all sailboats sold in North America are built in Europe. The US dollar remains strong making pricing for those boats very good. France and Germany continue to support their boat industry.
Beneteau continues as the largest sailboat builder in the world, however most of their resources are going to powerboats. This is also true of Jeanneau who remains closely associated with Beneteau. In 2018, 60% of Beneteau/Jeanneau sales were in power. They are making a big push in the US market.
The Hanse Group continues as the second largest sailboat builder in the world. In 2018 they acquired Privilege which is a catamaran builder. Catamaran sales are increasing and further benefitted from a huge loss of boats in the charter business due to the huge hurricanes last fall. The Hanse Group continues to be aggressive in introducing new models and offering factory buying incentives.
