HANSE YACHTS

With the intent of balancing our product line, I have been looking for a less expensive alternative to our Sabre Yachts. There is no doubt in my mind that Sabre builds the highest quality production sailboat on the market. Every time I step on a Sabre I realize that she is more than a beautiful yacht, she is a work of art. In order to provide this standard Sabres are more expensive.

Up until now at NWY we have promoted used boats as a way to introduce people to sailing. Used boats are a great value and often after many years of sailing our customers get a substantial portion of their investment back. However, no matter how well a boat is maintained a used boat is still a used boat. In trying to balance our product line the goal is to get that great new boat felling and keep the cost under control.

Many boat lines have been considered here at New Wave but until I saw the Hanse line my goal of having a quality less expensive yacht seemed unreasonable. I met with the Hanse people, who were very excited to have New Wave join their family, and quickly became their Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Rhode Island dealer. This is a big territory, but with our multiple offices it works out well.

Two months ago I flew to Toronto to see the boats there. It was ten degrees out and lightly snowing. This I find not to be the most stimulating boating atmosphere. I crawled between the cover and slid down below. I could see she was really solid and had lots of good hard wear. This week I drove to the Hanse dealer in Norwalk, Connecticut. He has a 40 in the water. The boat looked great fully rigged and really to go. Even though it was 45 degrees out, we cast off the dock lines and in ten minutes we were sailing in Long Island Sound. The boat handled extremely well, getting in and out of a very tight slip. With the sails up she accelerated in the puffs, had good stiffness, and moved smoothly through the water. This was my first sail this season and it was great.

I have no idea how Hanse makes much a nice yacht for so little money, but I sure am exited about being the dealer for them.
